After graduation, I
worked for American Greeting Corp for 2 years.
I married my
husband, Rich in 1966. He served in Viet Nam and
received a college degree and worked hard. We have
2 great sons, 4 lovely grandchildren and another
due in 1 week.
I was a stay at
home Mom for many years, but went back to work when
the kids were grown. I worked 20 years for the
Cleveland Clinic.
We are both now
happily retired, and live close to all our family
and feel blessed indeed!

I have 3 children,
Kenneth age 48 years, Brian age 45 years, and
Pamela age 45 years.
I have 4
grandchildren: Matthew 21, Stephanie 19, and 2
beautiful girls from China, Danielle 13, and
Rachael, 11.
I was a managing
cosmetologist for 17 years, before returning to
school, to became an electronic technician. I
retired in 2008.
During the same
time frame, I took up middle eastern dance, and
became a belly dancer. I danced to live bands at
several Arabic and Greek restaurants in the
Cleveland area for about eight years. My name was
given to the Lifetime TV network, and they chose me
as one of 26 women across the country that had set
and achieved a career goal. They found it
interesting that I was a hairdresser, an electronic
technician, and a professional belly dancer as well
as a wife and mother. They filmed me both in North
Olmsted and then in New York, going through a
typical week in my life. The half hour show was
shown on Lifetime a few times a month for an entire
year.
My most favorite
memory of FHS: Rushing back to school after lunch
at McDonalds, and running through the halls with
Carol, Bonny and Kathy to make it to class before
the bell would ring.
My favorite teacher
was Mr. Bivin.
One place I'd like
to see again is my childhood home, to tell my folks
just how much they meant to me. They passed away in
1998, one month apart.
My one guilt
pleasure is spending a whole afternoon reading a
good book. I also volunteer at St. John Medical
Center at least once a week.

I received a
pleasant phone call from Sharon Landreth last
night. From the background conversation, I could
tell that your committee enjoys getting together
for the reunion meetings.
Alas, I will not be
able to attend the reunion, but will be very much
with you in spirit.
I am still a
full-time Parish Pastor and celebrated officiating
at my 38th sunrise service on the beach of Long
Island Sound. Either the morning wind chill is
getting colder every year, or I'm getting older.
My thanks to the
committee for their work, the mailings, and the
website.
Blessings!

I have always been extremely curious about things.
I still am. I went through many years when I took
life very seriously, and then someone told me there
is still 1 death for every birth. I have lightened
up considerably.
I always intended
to get married right after college. The only
problem was that going into my senior year, I
wasn't dating anyone. However, being
a-lead-follow-or-get-the-hell-out-of-the-way kind
of person, I found Joan early in my senior year.
She is a kind and loving person. I knew that she
truly loved me, and wanted to marry her, when she
got up at 5 in the morning to make fried chicken
and potato salad to go to a Michigan v Michigan
State football game in Ann Arbor. We have been
married for over 45 years.
I have always liked
construction and have been in construction
management for my entire career. I've built
apartments, homes, mid-rise buildings, factories
and warehouses, and have been involved in several
reconstruction projects at sewer and water plants.
I was involved in building about 1000 apartment
units in the Cleveland area. I built the Memorial
Pavilion at Muirfield, Jack Nicholas' home course.
That was the year Jack won the Masters' for the
first time. I was involved in the reconstruction of
Manhattan's largest sewer treatment plant. It was a
several billion dollar project.
We have one son,
Andy. Both Joan and I do quite a bit with him. He
is a musician and a Software Architect. He plays in
a Praise Band at church and is very interested in
spirituality. Both Joan and I feel blessed to have
a son as talented and loving as Andy.
I have also gotten
involved in spirituality and read many books about
it and participate in spiritual programs and a
prison ministry. I feel I have lived and continue
to live a very blessed life.

My favorite memory
of FHS: When running for President, John F. Kennedy
came to Cleveland and gave a speech at Public
Square. Several of us skipped school that day and
went to see him. Someone in our group let me sit on
his shoulders, but I cannot remember who it was. it
was thrilling to see JFK and I remember feeling
very lucky to have had the chance, even if it meant
we had to skip school!!

Mr. Ned Livengood
One place from 1964
I'd like to see again, and why: A Friday night

Peyton Manning at the 101 Awards Banquet in Kansas
City.
Life has been very
good to me and I am grateful! I have recently
retired from the broadcast industry and am

called "On Your Way Home" this summer.
I am planning to go

Note from Dennis:
8/11/05
Dear
Pat,
It looks like you
have done a tremendous job putting this all
together once again. I have had a great summer
having spent three weeks in Panama where I bought a
property on the Pacific and one in the mountains
and then just returned from a weeks backpacking at
Pictured Rocks in Northern Michigan with my son.
Don't let Mr Smith see that horribly run on
sentence, but thank him for the New York trip--oops
there I go again...
|
|
In any case, I go
back to work in two weeks, teaching school and have
much to do before it starts. My normal
irresponsible nature might lead me down there, or
more likely my desire to see Colleen...
But if not, my
geetings to everyone, I'll be thinking of all of
you.

The challenge is
understanding how fifty years could pass so
quickly. It has been great to read of the
activities, careers and families of
classmates.
Here is an update
from me: (August 2014)
Married to Steve
Sacher for nearly 44 years. We have three
children
AJ, married to
Jessica and father of Ella; manages the managers at
Barney's Beanery restaurants, all seven of them, in
Los Angeles.
Barry Elizabeth,
landscape architect at Rock, Paper Scissors in
Oakland, CA
enduring the drought and
praying for rain.
Paul, married to
Laura and father of Caeley, Jameson, Charlotte
& Emmett, working in data security in
Alexandria, VA and sculpting metal on the
side.
Since college I
have lived in the Washington area, mostly
Alexandria, VA and spent my post housewife/mom
career as a public librarian in DC and as a school
librarian in Alexandria.
Since retiring in
2012 I spend time traveling with Steve, hanging out
with available grandchildren, and playing a lot of
piano. Steve and I cook, eat, read, don't get
enough exercise, and argue about politics daily.
Favorite memories
are too many to mention. Classmates' notes have
stirred up so many more.
Favorite teachers
include: everyone who taught English
.that was
such a great department: Klopfenstein, Smith, Smith
and Byrne. The other Mr. Smith, who taught biology.
Miss Hines who had such a comprehensive approach to
teaching French
..I still remember all
the word to the 'Marseillaise.'
At this writing I
still have two parents and five
siblings
all keeping on.
The best thing that
happened to us was moving to Fairview
Park.

looking forward to one of you winning a stay at our

One place from 1964
I'd like to see again, and why: My home in Fairview

great place to raise a family!
My one guilty
pleasure: I love spending time with my
grandchildren, who all live in Colorado. Aren"t I
lucky. I'm still skiing, trying to keep up with a
12, two 10-year olds, a 4-year old and the baby 1

After graduating
from Ohio State, with a Bachelor of Education (in
Russian, Spanish & French) and an MA in Slavic
Languages and Linguistics, I worked in France as a
tutor and childcare aide, and in Germany as a
substitute teacher on a US Air Force Base.
I returned to
Columbus and worked at the OSU Library while
studying for a Masters' of Library Science from
Kent State and taking Slavic PhD courses.
I worked as a
faculty librarian at OSU for 4 years, and then
moved to the DC area.
Using my languages,
I worked for international companies and law firms.
I married Wayne
Maliska in 1985. We don't have children, but we are
close to a large extended family.
I started my
freelance editing business in 1997.
We moved to a
beachfront condo in Ft. Lauderdale in 1999, where I
continued editing legal, medical, military, and
academic books and reports.
We are now fully
retired, but very busy with travel, visitors, and
activities in our condo. Life is good!

After graduating
from the University of Michigan in 1968, longing
for somewhere warm, I moved to California and
earned a master's degree in journalism from UCLA. I
worked in advertising in Hollywood until I married
Jim Redmond, whom I met at UCLA, because he said he
would drive me through Europe. We spent six months
on our honeymoon camping in an old VW van, driving
from Loch Ness to the tip of the
Peloponnese.
In the fall of 1971
we moved from Los Angeles to Michigan where I began
a teaching career and Jim earned an MBA. In 1974 we
returned to Los Angeles where, over the course of
the next 40 years, I headed the journalism
department at Long Beach City College, raised two
children (Sean, 34, and Brian, 30), and traveled to
exotic locales throughout the world whenever
possible.
I retired in 2007
and Jim and I will celebrate our 44th anniversary
in January 2015. The day after this reunion we are
traveling to Europe again. Ever faithful to his
vow, Jim is driving me through the French Alps.
My favorite
teachers are Mr. Smith, whose speech class made my
teaching career at Long Beach City College
possible; Mr. Livengood, whose economic aphorisms I
still remember to this day; Miss Hines, who made me
love France so much I have traveled there about 20
times and actually made myself somewhat understood
(I hope); and Miss Swayze, in whose class I met my
dear friend, Jan Owen.
Thinking of
friends, I am eager to see so many of my friends
coming to the reunion, including Jeanne Kirk, Mary
Rohlf, Sharon Golke, Sally Priesand and Jan Owen.
When Sally, Jan and I used to talk about what we
wanted to do when we "grew up," Jan and I wanted to
become actresses, a natural choice for Jan with her
talent and magnificent voice. Sally dreamed of
becoming the first woman rabbi -- and succeeded!
What a magnificent accomplishment, not just for
Sally, but for women in general. We grew up in a
period of transition and people like Sally, who had
the courage to challenge barriers, paved the way
for so many others.
I love living in
California and spend my leisure time exploring this
glorious state (and the entire West Coast). But I
am so thankful for the outstanding education I
received in Ohio at FHS and the teachers who cared
so much about us. They prepared me to succeed at U
of M and UCLA and made my own wonderful teaching
career possible. And I will always cherish "the
friendships made here, in our Fairview
High."

After a BS and MBA
from Miami University, I spent 44 years in the
advertising industry.
I began with the
old Carling Brewing Company making bar signs and
displays for Black Label Beer.
I moved on to Wyse
Advertising and spent 15 years with them conducting
market research projects, writing marketing and
advertising plans for clients (e.g. Smucker's,
Higbee's, National City Bank), and managing a
number of accounts including Sherwin-Williams, Pick
n Pay, East Ohio Gas, Moen, WKYC, The Stroh Brewing
Company to name a few.
In 1990, I started
my own marketing/advertising agency Jefferson &
Associates. I really enjoyed the freedom of running
my own show. One grand adventure took place when I
landed the broadcast rights to Cleveland State's
Men's Basketball team. I produced the radio and TV
broadcasts of their games for three years.
Over time my
business evolved from advertising more towards
marketing consulting. I started moderating focus
groups for folks like Goodyear and NAPA, and
advising clients on new product introductions and
marketing strategy.
For about 12 years
my office was located in The Powerhouse in the
Flats overlooking the Cuyahoga River. Great view!
In 2012, I retired
and closed my marketing agency, but still do some
occasional consulting work.
|
So what do I do to
keep busy? I read
a lot. I've got over 1,000
books covering everything from American history,
military history, sports, media, biographies,
politics, historical and current issues.
My love of theater
and the performing arts began at FHS with the
Stagecrafters. I see about 20 plays a year at
Playhouse Square, Beck Center for the Arts and on
Broadway.
I served on the
Beck Center board for 10 years and was the board
president for 3 years. I currently serve on the
BAYarts board and was their board president for 2
years.
I'm a long time fan
of the Tribe and the Browns. My dream was to be
either the shortstop of the Indians or the
quarterback of the Browns. My dream
continues.
I met the love of
my life in 1970 on a blind date for an Ohio State
football game, arranged by my dear friend Denny
Guenther. I spent the next 2 1/2 years commuting to
Columbus to be with Mary Kay, and we've now been
together over 40 years.
Our son Johnny is
an architect and works on historical restorations.
He's worked on a number of the buildings in
downtown Cleveland. Our daughter Jill lives in New
York City and is the Associate Director of
Marketing in charge of Advertising and Promotions
for New York City Ballet. And, we just learned that
we're going to be grandparents! My little ballerina
Jill is pregnant and due in March!

After graduation, I
attended Ohio University, majoring in Psychology.
I lived in
Connecticut for awhile, returning to Fairview to
attend Cast Western Reserve University, earning a
Masters' Degree in Social Work in 1976.
I worked in the
field of Medical Social Work in Los Angeles from
1976-1978, working in hospice care and then as
Director of Discharge Planning and Social Services
at Glendale Memorial Hospital.
I moved to Oregon
in 1979, and ran a bar and restaurant for 6 years
(where I really got my education!) and worked part
time at a local hospital.
I married my
husband, Don in 1984. We raised his children, Matt
and Jackie, and now have 4 delightful
grandchildren.
Don was disabled in
2001, leaving his life-long career as a Sea
Captain, driving ocean-going tugs. I kept working
and he became a summer camp host for the USFS in
the Trinity Alps Wilderness, where we continue to
spend lots of time.
My career shifted
into Child Welfare and Adoptions, both as a
mediator, and performing home studies.
The next assignment
took me into private practice where I did much of
the same, as well as family/individual/couple
counseling.
|
I contracted with
the Oregon State Court system to provide teaching,
mediation, and counseling to divorcing families.
I retired in 2011,
and we have continued our outdoor lifestyle with
camping, backpacking, fishing and hunting. I also
enjoy traveling, target Shooting, Tai Chi, knitting
and needlepoint, and fun times with family and
friends.
We live on 20 acres
outside a small town on the Southern Oregon Coast
and love the country life.
My favorite memory
of FHS: I know I laughed a lot but one of my
favorite times was a surprise breakfast with people
rousted out of bed and attending in p.j.s Another
favorite time was twirling a fire baton at one of
the football games because it was fun and it
freaked out the teachers!
My favorite
teachers: Mr. Bristow and Sally SweetOne place from
1964 I'd like to see again, and why: The Deli in
shopping center; Bain Park; and our home! Did you
say just one?My one guilty pleasure: Coconut vodka
with passion fruit on the Kona Coast. When in
Oregon it is an Irish Car Bomb.

I received my
Bachelor and Masters' degrees from Ohio State
University and a law degree (1981) from Capital
University, Columbus Ohio.
In my undergraduate
years, I was the original Ohio State Mascot (Brutus
Buckeye) from 1966-1968. My last "official" outing
was the 1969 Rose Bowl, where Ohio State defeated
"OJ" and Southern California for the 1968 National
Championship.
I worked for seven
years at Ohio D.O.T, four years for a Design
Engineering firm in Ft. Meyers, FL, two years for a
site utilities contractor, and twenty-seven years
for S-E-A Ltd, a forensic consulting engineering
firm, headquartered in Columbus Ohio. The last 4
years at S-E-A were spent managing a new office in
Charlotte NC. Happily, I retired in December
2011!!
Currently I am
building our "dream" retirement home located on the
12th Fairway in a golf course community in Aiken
SC.

I presently live in
Elkridge Maryland.
Irvin and I have
three children, Debbie age 46, Eric age 44, and
Greg age 31, and one grandchild.
I retired from work
in 2000. I spend my leisure time playing piano and
an electronic keyboard, and photography. My
favorite photographs are the lighthouses on the
Chesapeake Bay.
My favorite memory
of FHS: some of the gags the students used to play
on the teachers.
My favorite teacher
was Mr Crowley, Senior English.
One place I'd like
to see from 1964 is my home on West 223rd Street. I
had a very happy childhood there and some great
memories.
My one guilty
pleasure is boating on the Chesapeake Bay onboard a
37 ft Sea Ray, "Sundancer" and sipping a few
cocktails with good friends.
The most famous
person I've ever met is Willie Nelson.

Wow! 50
years
..Can you believe it? It has been a
great 50 years
some ups and some downs, but
haven't we all had those?
I married my
husband Ted Lorek in 1969 and we had 3 great kids,
Jennifer, 42, an intervention specialist in
Brooklyn OH, Josh, 39, a financial adviser in
Fairview, and Wren, 36, a second grade teacher in
Olmsted Falls. Josh's office ls located in the old
Cumming Woodall Optical at the corner of West 217th
and Lorain. As a side note, Josh purchased the
building and land where Gunselman's Tavern is
located. He is in the process of renovating the bar
and putting on an outside patio. I remember in my
youth, not wanting to walk on that side of the
street as all the drunks hung out there! Stop by
for a drink!
I became a widow in
June of 1963, after my husband, Ted, lost his 2
year battle with a brain tumor. We had planned on
growing old together but, that was not part of
God's plan.
My now-grown
children have always been my rock. I have had the
pleasure of being the Grandmother of 7
grandchildren. They are Addie, 13, Tess, 11, Peter,
9, Owen 7, Delia 6, and Charlotte (Charlie) 2. They
are all very active and involved in sports.
I began working for
Vitamix in 1990 and I am currently working there
today. It will be 25 years this coming May. When I
started, there were only 40 employees and now we
are up to 900. I love my job and dealing with
customers on a daily basis; I feel valued and
appreciated every day. Not everyone can say that
about their job.
In the last 5
years, I started to travel with friends. My first
trip, of all places, was Egypt! Since then, I have
been to Greece, Italy and most recently France. The
last 2 trips were with FHS classmates. The idea was
hatched at our Breakfast Club, with Pat Razem
Guzowski, Susan Kinkelaar Mears and Denise Wilder
Rainey 2 years ago. Now, it will be an annual
event. Pat is our wonderful travel agent. This
coming year it will be England, Scotland, and
Wales.
All in all, I would
say, I am a very lucky girl and so glad to be a
part of the planning committee for this 50th
milestone reunion.

It seems like just
yesterday, we all gathered together to say our
goodbyes, and start new lives. All of us were going
in some many different directions, and after all
these years, renewing old friendship once again.
Al and I are
blessed to have a son, David, 45 now living in
Atlanta, with children Jonathan 12, Luke 9 and
Linnea 7. David is VP underwriting and managing
Medical Malpractice Insurance for Allied Healthcare
and Physician Group. He travels all over the
country "wining and dining" clients. Christina, his
wife, is a nurse practitioner, specializing in skin
rejuvenation, creating the fountain of youth.
Our daughter, Lisa,
41 and Jeff live in LA with granddaughter, Ava, 7.
She and her hubby are in the film industry. Lisa, a
free lance accountant, and has credits working on
films such as XXX, Sea Biscuit, Terminal and the
Pirates of the Caribbean. She currently does
post-production accounting.
Jeff, VP of
production accounting for Lionsgate Films is
currently working on the Divergent Series.
Al, my hubby,
claims to be 37. He's just a kid at heart. He
retired 19 years ago, working shift work all his
life as a quality inspector. He has been the LOVE
of my LIFE for what seems like forever and is
always there for me. We work as a team, so that
life becomes fun. He has such an infectious laugh,
always seeing the funny side of things.
I am a freelance
calligrapher, and as we became traveling
grandparents, I began creating "memory banks" in
the lives of our grandchildren. It is most
important to see them now, at their young age. I
have my favorite alphabets, but it's the love of
Copperplate, that will take me to "wedding invites"
and place cards and provide any additional wedding
guidance for the Brides' special day. I have done
many certificates for Founders and Patriots of
America to name a few.
Over the years, we
have traveled extensively seeing the States and
will continue to travel as long as we can. We love
cruising and are now ready to see the rest of the
world.
I am currently
working on our family's ancestry researching to
find the LINK saying that Al is related to
Pocahontas. It's been very challenging.
It was always a
priority to spend time with family. Maybe that's
what has kept our energy going and upbeat. We are
looking forward to so many more chapters in the
"Days of our Lives".
In November, we are
traveling with the entire family of 10 to Mexico,
to Club Med. We are going on a 2nd honeymoon, since
the kids weren't there for the first one. Now you
know what will be the rest of our story. What a
journey we have been on. And so it goes, what
describes the last Fifty years, simply now: Our
Golden Wedding Anniversary, Nov 28, 2014

In a theater dressing
room. Where else?
|
|
I attended Marietta
College, the University of Wisconsin for my
Masters' and then was a Professional Theater
Program Fellow at the University of Michigan.
Along the way, I
met my wonderful husband at Wisconsin, Madison and
in 1973; we embarked on a global journey.
We thought we would
just be teaching for two years in Northern Nigeria
(he in economics and me in English and Theater
Arts). Thirty-Five years later, we retired to
Gainesville Florida to be near our elder son and
daughter-in-law, and three grandchildren. Our
younger son lives in Ashburn, VA.
We lived all over
Africa and Asia. Neal worked for the US Agency for
International Development and I did whatever was
going! A few times I worked for the US embassy, but
my favorite jobs were always teaching. In
Swaziland, I was giving African students a chance
at University which they could not get in apartheid
South Africa. Or, I was teaching with the Jesuits
at their campus in Kathmandu. A little professional
theater worked wonders in Nairobi. Yes, I loved it,
even when there was no water or electricity.
Thanks, Mr. Smith,
for starting me on this journey in
theater.

Fifty years gone in
the blink of an eye. It's been a great time filled
with family, friends, and an amazingly satisfying
career.
I graduated from
Ohio University with a degree in Interior Design. I
then worked at several design studios in Ohio.
In 1981, I packed
it up and moved to Southern California.
I visit Ohio
multiple times a year. My 97 year old Dad is still
well and living on his own in Fairview.
I had my own design
practice for many years and am now happily managing
a furniture showroom (Century Furniture) at a local
design center.
I have no plans on
retiring for a few more years.
I live in San
Clemente surrounded by wonderful friends and a

After college, I
worked as a draftsman for an architectural firm as
a draftsman and project coordinator for Ford Motor
Co.
When we started our
family, I was able to stay at home with our 2 boys.
I volunteered at their grade school, junior high
and high school. When they were older, I worked a
couple of summers with a federally funded work
program for teenagers.
For the past 33
years, I have tutored high school and college
students in Math and Science.
When our first
grandson was born, I started raising another child.
We had him 6 days a week from 7am to 6pm for
13years.
We have 2 boys,
ages 43 and 40. We also have 2 grandsons ages 17
and 9.
Greg, my husband,
spends his time swimming and competing in swim
meets. I water walk at least 4 days a week. I also
enjoy working on my family tree.
I also enjoy
finding people for reunions. Since I graduated from
FHS in '64, and Greg graduated in '65, and my
brother graduated in '66, I have been working on
finding classmates for all three
reunions.

50 years, WOW!
I majored in art at
Bowling Green University.
I got married 6
months after graduation and moved to New York--
Poughkeepsie and Hyde Park. My three daughters were
born there.
In 1979, we moved
to California, to the SFO Bay area.
After being married
for 25 years, my husband changed his mind, and the
girls and I were on our own. They went to college,
and I moved to Carmel, CA
.the beach was
calling!
When my girls
finished college, and moved back to the SFO Bay
area, I did too! Just in time for 3 weddings! They
have blessed me with 8 terrific grandkids, 5 boys
& 3 girls, all under the age of 10! Life is
good.
I spend my leisure
time, gardening, drawing children, walking my dog,
Sadie, and spending time with family and lots of
time with my grandkids.
My favorite memory
of FHS was riding our bikes to Jacquay with good
friends, getting lost in the Valley, in the dark,
on our way home.
One place I'd like
to see from high school is my home in Fairview in
1961, so my Dad would be there!
My one guilty
pleasure: Captain Morgan
The most famous
person I've ever met: Billy Joel - He sat down next
to me at a hotel bar in SF.
Message for
classmates: All of you who live in
town
.better show up! I can't wait to see
everyone.
(Thanks

drew for favors. You are indeed
talented!)

I worked Downtown
Cleveland as a secretary from 1964-68.
I left to have my
first child, Randy, 46. Thankfully, I was a stay at
home Mom for several years.
When my second son,
Steve, age 42, was in first grade, I took at job as
a typesetter for a college publication and was
later named Circulation Manager.
I tested, along
with around 100 others, for a secretarial position
with the Medina City Schools. After placing near
the top of the rankings, I accepted a position with
Medina High. I worked there for 25 years as a
secretary, then administrative secretary, then
bookkeeper. I retired after 25 years.
I keep busy now
tending our animals, making hand-crafted greeting
cards, playing computer games, and working 10 hours
in my church office.
My dream is for us
to leave Ohio Winters, in the not too distance
future.
I have 2
grandchildren, Kyle, 22 yrs, and Julia, 15 yrs.

to the Akron area in 1970. My family consists of 2
sons, Mark age 41yr, Greg 37 yrs, Step-son Brian,
46 yrs and Sara, step-daughter 44yrs.
I worked as a
journalist/editor from 1979-1985, divorced and
married Eric Nelsen.
I then worked for
The University of Akron, where I retired in 2008.
I try to keep my
priorities straight-God, family, friends, and
charities.
I love music, art,
and writing. I maintain a blog,
nelsenkt@blogspot.com, where I share stories and
thoughts about faith and life in a small town.
I especially enjoy
spending time with my 7 grandchildren ages 20 down
to 6 yrs.
My favorite
memories of FHS was when the swim team won States,
when we beat Rocky River in football, cheerleading,
and enjoying Gary's amazing creativity for our
dances.
My favorite teacher
was Mr. Bivin.
My one guilty
pleasure: I like candy&emdash;a lot of it. It's an
addiction!

After graduation, I
attended Cleveland Academy of Cosmetology, and
married Tom Conen in 1965. We had 2 children,
Amanda and Sarah born '72 & '75.
I went back to work
in 1978 part-time, then full time. I worked in
Higbee's Salon, then various salons.
Our children
attended Messiah Lutheran School, finishing at
Lakewood HS.
I divorced in 1981
and went to Sawyer Business School for an
Associates' Degree.
I worked at the
Lutheran Home doing hair, and then got a job in
Social Services for Avon Nursing Home. I worked in
other nursing homes as a hair dresser and also have
been Activities Director for other homes and
Assisted Living Facilities.
I remarried on 1982
to John Arlinghaus, presently still married.
I have 4
grandchildren ages 9-to 21 months.
We moved to Florida
My husband has his
own business and I occasionally help, but basically
I am retired. I love to walk, play golf and tennis,
bowl, and hang out with friends.

Boy, were they old!
I was sitting in the bleachers at an FHS basketball
game. It was Homecoming, 1962. A late-20s couple
was in the row above me. Clearly alums. Boy they
were old. They were so old that it was actually OK
that she was pregnant. That's OLD... when you're
16. Amazing how perspectives change.
|
|
I headed off to the
U of Michigan after FHS, along with Gary Skoog
& Nancy Huttenlocher. After four years as a
physics major, I moved west to San Diego to start
graduate school at Scripps Institution of
Oceanography. I initially lived in a rural house
about a quarter mile from Torrey Pines beach. My
share of the rent was $45/mo. I was pretty
shaggy-looking back then-back when hair was easy to
grow. In 1970, I managed to get in an accident
unloading a ship in Honolulu. The three months in
& out of hospitals wasn't fun, but the odd
by-product was that I got to sit-out the Vietnam
war. (Remember Ms. Margaret Friend,
guys?)
Presumably being
deemed unemployable elsewhere, I've stayed at
Scripps after graduation. I now live with wife
Linda about 100 yards from where I first moved in
'68. Local rents have gone up. Daughter Laura is a
RN and is getting married Sept 7th, so I'll miss
the reunion. (After 68 years, I've got a month to
learn to dance. Will it happen??
unlikely).
Son Greg works as an engineer in LA. Great
kids!

My leisure time
passion is, as it was at FHS, sailing. Here it's a
year-round activity. I just have to keep my carcass
in shape to keep the boat from tipping
over.
Linda & I have
also spent some time in northern New Mexico. My
dad, a frustrated cowboy, bought some land near
Taos in the late 60's & it's become a family
vacation spot. I'm still working at Scripps / UCSD,
getting increasingly concerned about climate
change. Hopefully I'll be able to escape the world
of work in a few more years.
Of the FHS
teachers, Mr. Campbell, Mr. Smith, Mr. Peat, Mr.
Russ and Mr. Hammett were incredibly influential.
Miss Ische, aka The Isch, was in a class by
herself. It's impressive how much they cared about
us & how little we were aware of it.
I'm sorry I'll miss
the 50th reunion. Drop me an email & say
"Hi".

I am presently
living in Ashbury Park, NJ. I retired as a rabbi in
2006. I spend my leisure time busier than ever. I
am volunteering in my community, speaking around
the country, taking care of my Mom, who is 98 years
old, and sharp as a tack! I also enjoy abstract
watercolor, photography, writing and hanging out
with my dog, Shadow, who never fails to make me
laugh.
My favorite memory
of FHS: I was student director of the play, "J.B"
which took place in a circus tent. The curtain went
up, the play began, and the tent fell down. I had
to send people out to fix it, pretending it was
part of the play. Afterwards, we all had a good
laugh.
My favorite teacher

After graduation I
attended Kent State University.
I worked at
Higbee's as a visual merchandizer where I met my
husband of 44 years, Dave Coleman (FHS Class of
66). We have 2 sons & 1 daughter (FHS Classes
of 92, 94, & 97). We have 6 grandsons.
I retired after 20
years as office coordinator for Crain's Cleveland
Business where I met many interesting people such
as Cleveland sports team's owners and coaches,
Cleveland and Ohio political, business and civic
leaders. Cleveland truly is "the best location in

After graduation
from FHS, I was employed for a year at NASA and
attended night classes at TriC. Then, I joined
fellow Warriors, Jeanne Kirk, Elmer Wanke, Gary
Schatmeyer, Paul Stewart and Jake Demko at Ohio
University in September '65.
As an English
major, somehow I was convinced I would one day
write the great American novel. Then after
graduation from OU, I found another calling,
teaching 8th grade English at Horace Mann Middle
School in Lakewood. I taught there for 6
years.
While teaching, I
met and married my husband of 42 years, Larry. We
started our family of 4 children, Sandy 39 yrs,
Mark 38 yrs, Susan 35yrs, and Laura 33yrs. They
have given us 8 grandchildren, 3 of whom were born
in 2014, and a 4th grandbaby is due the week of our
reunion. It's been a wild year!
My husband was CEO
of Women's Federal Savings Bank and gave me a great
opportunity to travel to numerous conventions and
bank events.
Early in our
marriage, we initiated a family travel tradition
with our children. We have been fortunate to have
taken a family vacation with our (ever growing)
family for 36 consecutive years!
So, these 2
opportunities escalated into my 2nd career. In
1996, while discussing a future trip with my then
travel agent, she offered me a job. After taking a
"21 year maternity leave" to raise our family, I
went back to work.
Now, 18 years later
and 3 different travel agencies, I still enjoy the
challenge of making travel dreams come true. I have
been fortuitous to have the opportunity to enjoy
the many travel perks of the job. I've seen a good
chunk of the world, but as I visit one new
destination, inexplicably, my bucket list continues
to grow!
As I reflect on the
past 50 years, I feel very blessed. The popular
Holiday movie comes to mind, and I identify with
the line, "I really have had a wonderful
life."

I graduated from
Purdue in June 1968. I managed to do it in 4 years,
although it took a change in major (to industrial
engineering) and 1 summer course at Baldwin
Wallace. I also never wanted to see a textbook
again.
I took a job with
Westinghouse Electric, who could offer a draft
deferment, even though I was in sales.
I worked in Toledo
for a year, Detroit for 6 months, back to Toledo
for another few months and then to Cleveland.
I believe I was
drinking with John Jefferson at the Copper Kettle,
late one Friday night ('70?) when I spotted a cute
blond girl walking in and excused myself. That girl
was getting off work (3-11 shift) at United
Airlines Reservations Office at Westgate and she
eventually became my wife and the mother of my 3
children.
In 1973, I took a
job with Allis-Chalmers (still in sales: office in
Rocky River) which gave me a permanent base in the
Cleveland area.
Our first house was
in Bay Village. It was condemned. After extensive
remodeling, we were able to sell it for a very tidy
profit when I was transferred to New Orleans in
1976.
In 1985, I was
transferred to Atlanta Ga.
In 1993, I finally
overcame my loathing of textbooks and enrolled in a
"distance learning" MBA program at Syracuse
University. In 1999, I graduated, Magna Cum Laude,
with an MBA. I had finally learned how to
study.
My wife, Jane, died
of breast cancer in 2002. We had been married for
almost 31 years.
In 2003, my next
door neighbor fixed me up on a blind date with my
present, wife, Susan, who lived in Birmingham AL.
WE were married on Halloween 2009 (We figured we
could remember that date!) after I retired.
After selling my
house in Marietta, GA, we bought one of our own in
Lincoln AL (where the Talladega Super Speedway is
located) Moe importantly; it is across-the-street
from the lake where I keep my sailboat (my
retirement toy).
I have 3 children,
Christopher age 39yrs, Scott, age 37 yrs, and
Lindsay, age 35 yrs with 4 grandchildren.
I retired from my
job in 2009. I spend my leisure time sailing and
doing yard work.
My favorite teacher
was Mr. Pete.

Frank and I met at
Purdue and married in January 27, 1968. We have 2
daughters, Anne and Julie, and 7 grandsons, and 1
great-granddaughter.
Frank spent 20
years in the Air Force, 10 of them was overseas
(Okinawa, Italy, Germany). Then for 16 years, he
was a military contractor.
My degree in
Institutional Management was not of much use
overseas, so I went back to school for a teaching
certificate, and taught Pre-K for about 20 years.
Then, I went into childcare, retiring 4 years ago.
I have been
learning to quilt, and also enjoy reading,
classical music and classical rock from the 60's to
present, needle arts, cooking and
scrapbooking.

It is inconceivable
that 50 years have passed since 9 of us jammed into
Jeff Jeffries '62 Chevy convertible for our
infamous all night drive/bar hop to Sandusky. (We
had eyes for the Bay!)
I graduated from
OSU in '69 with an engineering degree. College was
quite the balancing act between studies and
parties.
After a year as an
engineer at US Steel, to avoid the draft and a 4
month road trip across Canada and the US, I
relocated to gorgeous Colorado.
I "dropped out",
became a leather craftsman, and skied my way
through the 70's. My lifelong love of music and
sound reproduction led to my 37 year career in
sales and design at ListenUP. I started selling
stereos, which evolved into 6 figure whole home
automation systems.
Two former
marriages, the birth and growth of my talented son,
Brandon, and my current exceptional 17 year
relationship with Marilyn (not married, just
dating) have defined my personal life. We have
enjoyed traveling together to Europe, Costa Rica,
Hawaii, etc.
While I've been
thinking of retiring for several years, business
has been booming, and I am wrapping up my best year
ever at ListenUp.
Even though I have
many projects and travel plans to fill my time, I
can't really imagine my life in
retirement.

I am an artist,
dreamer, sometimes obsessed with an idea, usually
impractical.
My work has stepped
out of the realm of the known, the predictable, the
practical.
I have made my
choice. I have completed my work and I function the
best I can.
My struggle has
touched lives and I have found my sense of purpose
in my existence.
Fear and guilt are
my only enemies.
Forgetting life for
awhile, I'll be working, breathing, and
demonstrating the creative process.
That's my job
here
.to be an artist. And, all I ever wanted
to be was a ROCK STAR!

now.
My favorite teacher

I have enjoyed an
abundant life since graduation, filled with many
blessings and also its share of trials.
I am still married
40 years this year, to Jim, who is still working
and traveling to Chicago.
We are enjoying our
children, Katie, 35ys and Jimmy, 31 yrs, both
happily married, living in New York State, along
with our grandchildren, Helen 6yr, Teddy, 4 yrs.
I am now a 6 year
breast cancer survivor, and have moved again to
Northern MI where I volunteer at the summer
retreats for Reeling and Healing, teaching women
cancer patients fly fishing on the AuSable River.
Gardening and golf also keep me busy.
We are snowbirds
now; wintering in Englewood, FL and glad of it
after the winter of 2014!
I will miss being
able to attend this 50th milestone
reunion.

Birthday: Dec.
9
Marital Status:
Single
I graduated from
Miami University with a degree in French (thank you
Miss Hines for such a good background), and taught
high school French in Dayton for 3 _ years. During
the summers I took students to France &endash;
quite a gig for a teacher who was only 22 or 23
years old! I then moved to Chicago, where I worked
in corporate training until I earned my MBA from
Northwestern University's Kellogg School of
Management. I then spent 20 years as Director of
Marketing for three law firms here in Chicago. In
2005 I transitioned to consulting and taught
marketing at two local universities. In 2008 I
began a wonderful adventure, teaching English in
China for three years. I lived one year in Hangzhou
and two years in Beijing, and traveled throughout
China and Southeast Asia.
How I spend my
leisure time: Since returning to Chicago in 2011 I
have continued teaching English to foreign students
part-time. I also participate in classes through
the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and
volunteer-usher at numerous theater, dance and
music events and concerts in Chicago. I loved my
adventures in Stagecrafters and Thespians, and love
being able to continue my involvement in the
performing arts by seeing so many wonderful
performances &endash; for free! I've also been
fortunate to have traveled &endash; a lot! I've
visited almost 40 countries and hope my adventures
aren't over yet.
My guilty pleasure
is chocolate and ice cream (even better when taken
together).
The most famous

I retired from the
Cleveland Police Department in 2000.
Bob Rainey and I,
along with some army buddies, meet at Gina's Place
in Fairview for breakfast once a week.
I belong to the
North Ridgeville Fishing Club and enjoy the various
outings.
I am currently
assisting my daughter's move to San Mateo, CA and
my granddaughter's tuition at Ohio Northern.
I stay close to old
police buddies and belong to various fraternal
organizations.
My son is a police
officer in North Ridgeville, was an Iraq war
veteran, and is an engineering graduate of Akron
University. He stays busy with The Lorain County
Bomb Squad and the SWAT Team.

After graduation
and college, I married Bob Rainey and we have 2
children, and 4 wonderful grandchildren.
I worked for 30
years at Ford Motor Company and retired from the
H.R Department in 2006.

I enjoy traveling and recently went to France with
fellow classmates and friends.
Roger Gutschmidt
and I have a white dove business, Westshore White
Doves. We do those dove releases for weddings,
funerals, etc. It's really an enjoyable job.
But my biggest joy
is being with my family, as that's what life is
really about, isn't it?
Looking forward to
seeing all my classmates at our 50th!

Birthday: August
1
I am presently
living in Sidney, IL with my wife, Mary.
I retired in 2001
and spend my leisure time, playing senior slow
pitch softball, and taking care of our 18 acres and
3 dogs.
My funniest memory
of FHS: Too long ago to remember!
My favorite teacher
at FHS was Bob Benninghoff.
One place from 1964
I'd like to see again, and why: The old swimming
pool. I really enjoyed being on the swim
team!
My one guilty
pleasure: Still playing slow pitch softball since
1975.
The most famous
person I've ever met: Daron Williams of the Nets
and Ex-Illini
